![]() ![]() The Putnam is the final part of the story of ambitious mathletes. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1939 and was named a Putnam Fellow. Richard Feynman was rejected as his first choice of school at Columbia University because of the “Jewish Quota.” He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology instead.He also won the New York University Math Championship in his final year at the school. He excelled in mathematics at Far Rockaway High School in Queens. Richard Feynman had a talent for engineering at an early age.At around 12 years of age, fixing people’s radios became one of his early jobs. He became known in his town as a handyman. ![]() He also took electronics in his room and experimented with them sometimes causing electrical fires. He played with the voltages and frequencies. ![]()
